Green Tea Bath Salt

A bath can be so much more than a way to get clean. Baths can soothe and pamper the skin while alleviating stress. For the ultimate in stress relief, dim the lights in your bathroom, light some fragrant candles and slide into a warm bath. Adding ingredients to the bathwater can enhance the experience even more and give you some great beauty benefits. One ingredient that should be on the top of your list is green tea. It's not just great for drinking, but bathing as well. Green tea bath salt is a fantastic way to get the healing properties of green tea in your bath.

Green tea is picked from the camellia sinensis plant, which is the tea plant from which all true tea is harvested. Oolong and black teas also come from this plant. Green tea is picked when young and steamed directly after harvest to avoid oxidation. Thus, green tea is packed with antioxidants called catechin polyphenols. Experts believe these catechin polyphenols may protect against everything from cancer to heart disease. Green tea has antibacterial properties which makes it great for the skin. It helps to cleanse, clarify and nourish the skin and it smells great.

You can make your own green tea bath salt from common household ingredients. You will need a container, sea salt or Epsom salt, finely ground loose green tea and any oils you'd like to add. For extra moisturizing power, add olive oil. Jojoba is another great oil for the skin. You can also add essential oils like rose or lavender for more fragrance. Simply combine the ingredients until you've got two parts salt to one part tea. If adding oil to your bath salts, add enough to make the salt moist but not slushy. When adding to your bathwater, pour about a handful under very warm running water.

Of course, you can also buy green tea bath salt from a variety of vendors. Green tea is a popular ingredient for the skin and body, so you might come across this product in a store near you. However for the best selection, consider shopping online. There are quite a few small etailers who offer wonderful homemade bath and beauty products that include bath salts of all kinds. Some of these companies use only organic materials and all of them make their products by hand. Whether you make your own bath salt or buy it already made, you're sure to love the soothing effects and lovely fragrance of green tea!
